چکیده

In this paper, we propose a time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation scheme using impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB). This scheme is featured by a low sampling rate and is robust against clock drift. Low-rate stroboscopic sampling, which can achieve an equivalent sampling rate as high as the Nyquist sampling rate, is adopted to achieve a high resolution TOA estimate by IR-UWB. Since a long preamble is required to collect sufficient data samples, the clock drift is one of the main error sources in TOA estimation with stroboscopic sampling IR-UWB systems. Taking the drift into account, we first obtain a maximum-likelihood (ML) estimate of the drift, and then estimate the TOA using the averaged data samples calibrated for the drift. Simulation results corroborate that the associated drift calibration significantly reduces the TOA estimation errors, and that stroboscopic sampling can achieve the same estimation resolution as Nyquist rate

A 0.47-1.6mW 5bit 0.5-1GS/s time-interleaved SAR ADC for low-power UWB radios

This ADC is an 16-channel time-interleaved 5-bit asynchronous SAR ADC for UWB radios. It proposes 400aF unit capacitors, offset calibration, a self-resetting comparator and a distributed clock divider to optimize the performance. Only a simple calibration of the channel-offset is needed while the other error sources (Gain mismatch error, time-skew error, etc.) are minimized by intrinsic design....

Time of arrival and power delay profile estimation for IR-UWB systems

In time of arrival (TOA) estimation of received ultra-wideband (UWB) pulses, traditional maximum likelihood (ML) and generalized likelihood estimators become impractical because they require sampling at the Nyquist rate. Sub-Nyquist ML-based TOA estimation currently assumes a priori knowledge of the UWB channels in the form of the average power delay profile (APDP). In this paper, instead of as...

An Improved Spray and Wait with Probability Choice Routing for Opportunistic Networks

Because of the good penetration into many common materials and inherent fine resolution, Ultra Wideband (UWB) signals are widely used in remote ranging and positioning applications. On the other hand, because of the high sampling rate, coherent Time of Arrival (TOA) estimation algorithms are not practical for low cost, low complexity UWB systems. In order to improve...

Threshold selection method for UWB TOA estimation based on wavelet decomposition and kurtosis analysis

In wireless sensor networks, ranging or positioning via ultra-wideband (UWB) has caused widespread research interests where the non-coherent energy detection (ED) method with low sampling rate and low complexity is widely studied. However, the traditional energy detection methods only analyze the signal energy in the time domain, so their error is relatively large. In this paper, the simulation...
